DISARMAMENT And International security committee (DISEC)
Committee director: Naomi Dutes
Hey guys! My name is Naomi and I'm glad to be your chair for the first ever HillMUN conference. To be completely honest with you guys, this class means so much to me that I have no idea where I would be without it. I've been in this class for a year and it has changed me so much as a person. Before this class there wasn't a place where I could really enjoy myself or display my genuine interest in world politics and as of now I'm so glad I took part in such an amazing opportunity. Model UN has such a cute little family and to me that's what makes the whole experience more exciting. Everyone is so helpful and so nice that you can't help but think we've known eachother for a really long time! Model UN means the world to me and I can't wait to see what you all bring to the table.
Fun fact: I love watching soccer and my favorite team is FC Barcelona
Assistant Director: Maisha Rahman
Hi! My name is Maisha Rahman and although I was born in New Jersey, I am a New Yorker at heart. I recently joined MUN and despite not being an experienced student, I've learned so much from this class. It has improved my public speaking skills and my writing as well.
Fun Fact: In my spare time I like to draw and write poetry.
Illegal Arm Trades
The Disarmament and International Security Committee is the first out of six committees in the General Assembly. DISEC is involved with issues associated with disarmament, global challenges and any conflicts that disrupt the peace within international communities. Throughout the globe arms trafficking has recently become a widespread problem leading to a series of conflicts such as major civilian casualties. Many nations are seeking a worldwide solution in order to put a stop to such actions and come to a final conclusion on how to prevent the illicit trade of weapons and the safeguard of innocent lives.
Within this committee delegates will seek to find solutions dealing with illegal arms and illicit arms trade.
